The Hype of Vitamin C

Suffering from dull, tired and grumpy skin? Then join the club – I’m a mother of an eczema child who can’t sleep properly throughout the night and struggles with his itch during the day as well. So naturally I don’t get enough time to make an extra effort for my skin’s wellbeing. And the added stress makes it even more dull.

A quick Google search revealed that when it comes to skincare, there is one Holy Grail product that is a part of almost everybody’s skincare routine now a days, and that is vitamin C! So without any further delay, I also jumped on the bandwagon and starting following the trend.

It’s been more than a week now since I started Vitamin C serum, and I can already notice pigmentation on my face (specifically cheeks) fading away. I actually not only started using Vitamin C topically but also take it orally. So maybe a combination of both is making my skin appear more dewy.

Now diving into some commonly known benefits of Vitamin C…

Superb Anti-oxidant – With its powerful antioxidant properties, vitamin C works to even out skin tone and polishes it to add that extra gleam, leaving you with a vibrant glow. Moreover, regular usage can help prevent the effects of sun damage and pollution from showing up on your skin.

Brightens Complexion – High-potency vitamin C also helps visibly brighten your skin by diminishing the appearance of dark spots and discoloration.

Reduces Signs of Aging – It helps to reduce the signs of aging by dramatically improving the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and dark spot.

Good moisturizer – Moisturizing with vitamin C aids in replenishing the skin’s natural lipids and restoring the skin’s natural barrier function, which yields softer skin texture and increased moisture retention.

These are just some of the benefits when using Vitamin C topically. Now if we talk about oral intake then you may take a pill (do consult a doctor first), or you may add foods containing vitamin C – green peppers, broccoli, oranges, papaya, strawberries and cantaloupe are all excellent sources.

I still can’t be 100% sure whether it’s vitamin C working it’s magic or it is something else that I changed in my routine, as it’s only been a week or so. But one thing is for sure, my skin definitely feels more smooth and radiant. I’ll keep on following this regime and will update whether vitamin C is an actual holy grail, or just another faux. Till then take care.
